Continuum Wins Two Spark Awards
Boston, MA, January 4, 2012 — Continuum, a global innovation and design consultancy, today announced that the company, along with its clients Holiday Inn and Target Corporation, are the recipients of two Gold 2011 Spark Design & Architecture Awards for their collaborations on designing The Hub at Holiday Inn, the global hotel chain’s new lobby concept, and Target’s iconic shopping cart.
“Through the service design expertise of Continuum and the architectural vision of ai3, Holiday Inn was able to design an innovative and open space that keeps with the philosophy of doing things ‘on the guests’ terms,” said Verchele Wiggins, Vice President, Global Brand Management, Holiday Inn Family of Brands. “The Spark Award focuses on promoting better living through better design, and we are honored that The Hub at Holiday Inn represents this design principle.”
“One of the ways that Continuum helps companies to grow their business is by creating new ways to enhance people’s experience of the brand,” said Harry West, CEO of Continuum. “We are privileged to work with both Holiday Inn and Target, helping them to rethink the core experience of their customers, and to bring these innovations to life through great design. The Hub at Holiday Inn and the new Target shopping cart demonstrate that even in well established businesses it is possible to discover simple but powerful ideas that differentiate the customers’ experience of a brand.”
The Spark 2011 Design & Architecture Awards is juried by an independent panel of design experts, reviewing more than three hundred top design entrants. Submitted designs are evaluated on a variety of design elements, including: Innovation, elegance, sustainability and durability, among other criteria. Spark winners are published in Korea’s Creative World and Design Competitions, exhibited by invitation in multiple countries and archived in permanent galleries on the web.
The Hub at Holiday Inn
strong The Hub at Holiday Inn integrates the lobby, bar and restaurant space into one area with multiple places for guests to eat and drink, connect, relax and have fun. While Holiday Inn Hotels already provide guests with everything they need to stay connected to the office or home with free WiFi, accessible outlets and a business center, The Hub at Holiday Inn allows the brand to provide the added benefit of being able to connect with people on a social level, too. The Hub at Holiday Inn focuses heavily on three areas that set it apart from competitive concepts: An enhanced bar experience for eating and drinking, the ability to have fun via the gaming area and being able to relax either at the outdoor cabanas and fire pits or in the media lounge. The Hub at Holiday Inn also features a new food and beverage program that includes a focus on the evening social time. In addition, The Hub offers breakfast with a chef station, a grab and go breakfast area and a 24/7 Market. The design of the space is both seamless and modular, so it’s easy for guests to unwind at The Hub at Holiday Inn.
The Target Shopping Cart
Made of high-impact plastic, the Target shopping cart helps fulfill the promise of a shopping experience that is uniquely Target. The shopping cart has a clean, modern look. A continuous top handle adds ergonomic comfort, the lightweight plastic makes the cart easier to handle and the wire backrest for kids is replaced by smooth plastic. Additionally, the large circular perforations in the basket reference Target’s iconic Bullseye logo. Rolled out to hundreds of stores nationwide, the cart helps deliver a superior shopping experience for Target guests.
