Kopin produces high-quality, miniature LCD displays that have been used in over 30 million products worldwide. Their disruptive approach to innovation has enabled the creation of technology that previously was never thought possible. They approached Continuum to design and build a concept model for a personal headset that would enable users to view 2D and 3D content as if they were watching a high-definition, widescreen television from six feet away.
Continuum assembled a multi-disciplinary team to consider human-centered design elements and systems integration. The firm targeted business travelers to experience this elite, high-performance product. In order to ensure it would be comfortable for every user, a database of hundreds of virtual heads was assessed using computer aided design (CAD) to ensure the perfect range of adjustability. Once determined, the team devised a compact housing with miniaturized internal wiring to achieve an unobtrusive design tailored to the fashion-conscious consumer.
Continuum’s in-house model shop delivered fully functional prototypes only three months into the project.
These were unveiled at Kopin’s 25th Anniversary celebration where they were tested by approximately 300 attendees with overwhelmingly positive feedback.
